Kent footballer's goal ranks 24th out of 2000 in international competition

The support of the Kent football community helped Pristine FC’s Matt Burdon rank highly in VEO’s People’s Puskas.

A spectacular overhead goal scored by a Sunday league footballer from Kent narrowly missed out on making the final eight of an international competition.

The People’s Puskas is organised by Kent FA’s Video Technology Partner, VEO, to celebrate the finest strikes scored by amateur clubs that use the company’s video technology around the world.

Matt Burdon’s bicycle kick for Pristine FC was chosen by judges as one of the top 100 goals from 2,183 submissions made by football clubs worldwide in 2024.
The public then voted for which of the 100 strikes should make the final round of eight.

Thanks in part to the support of the Kent football community, Matt’s goal, scored against Charing FC Reserves in the Ashford and District Sunday League, received 544 votes to rank it 24th overall – just 16 places outside the top eight.

Voters can now choose which of the shortlisted eight goals should wins the coveted award, with the finalists hailing from Canada, Kenya, France, Great Britain and Spain.
VEO’s People’s Puskas has helped to make online stars of several grassroots footballers over the years, with 2023’s winning goal, scored by Mason Evans, accumulating more than seven million views.

The Ynyshir Albions FC winger’s incredible volley was shared widely on social media by football stars including by the former Arsenal player and current Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie.

Matt’s bicycle kick has received many thousands of views since being shared on VEO’s social media platforms and been widely complimented by the global football community.
