Business Sixes success in support of Demelza
The fourth Kent FA Business Sixes tournament, sponsored by The Merit Group, took place last Friday at the University of Kent in Canterbury.
Eight teams from across the County competed to take home silverware in support of Demelza.
On a pleasantly warm day in east Kent, the teams were split into two groups of four. Group A consisted of Bellway, Natwest, The Merit Group, and KCHT, while Group B contained DFDS, Veolia, OSB Group, and Shapes.
The group stages lasted around two hours, and in the end, Bellway and DFDS topped their respective groups.
The knockout stages saw Bellway defeat Shapes, KCHT overcome DFDS, Veolia beat The Merit Group, and OSB Group beat Natwest in an epic penalty shootout. The Semi-Finals were very keenly contested affairs. Veolia narrowly beat Bellway 2-1, while KCHT again needed penalties to advance as they defeated OSB Group to reach the final.
A thoroughly enjoyable final saw KCHT take the lead only to be pegged back by Veolia. The tie was heading towards a penalty shootout until Veolia struck a very late one to win the match.
Player of the Tournament was awarded to the KCHT goalkeeper, Thomas Fentern-Brittain, for an outstanding display throughout the afternoon. We are proud to announce the event raised over £500 for Demelza.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at the University of Kent for their warm hospitality, to The Merit Group for their generous sponsorship, to our two match officials, David Silman and Vince Bottacchi, and finally, a huge thanks to all the teams that took part in what was a fantastic afternoon of football.
